Case Study: Oracle SOA upgrade at Medical Devices Company

The client was established on 1981 with the goal to empower to each individual to deal with hearing loss by providing innovative hearing solution that deliver lifetime of hearing outcome to worldwide customers.

In 2016 Fusion Professionals were entrusted to implement Oracle SOA and EBS Migration to Oracle Super Cluster Hardware.

Client’s existing hardware systems had capacity and performance issue for many deployed enterprise applications e.g. EBS, SOA and Portal. The existing systems also did not support Maximum Availability Reference Architecture (MAA) which was affecting customers because servers need to be turned-off due to regular maintenance. Also, many products reaching to its end of life support from product vendor including Oracle SOA 11g.

Objectives

Fusion Professionals were tasked with facilitating the client to assist with the migration of its enterprise applications to newly implemented Oracle Super Cluster systems. The client’s systems in scope for the project comprised of the following elements:

  1. Oracle eBusiness Suite (eBS)

  2. Oracle Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

  3. Oracle iStore

  4. Oracle Databases (for above applications)

  5. Oracle Databases (up to 10 additional databases for other applications)

Implemented Solution

The client had decided to buy Oracle Super Cluster hardware which supports higher hardware configuration up to 128 core CPU, 3 TB RAM and 200 TB of usable storage. Fusion professional also did initial capacity planning for the client to ensure all existing enterprise system get enough CPU, Memory and Storage allocation. Later, Fusion professional were chosen to lead and carry out the migration planning for two major enterprise systems EBS and Oracle SOA respectively to Oracle Super cluster hardware. FP had done initial workshop to get the understanding of current systems and handed over its report to the client. FP further were selected to lead and execute SOA11g migration to SOA12c on Oracle Super Cluster hardware.

The client had strategic middleware platform where almost 70 SCA services been deployed using Oracle SOA Suite 11g and Oracle web service manager 10g gateway products and interacting with majorly with Salesforce, EBS and Portal application. FP has installed five Oracle SOA 12c environments named DEV, TST, UAT, PRD and DR respectively. DEV, TST and DR are single node environment, while UAT and PRD are the cluster node and support Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA). We deployed the new solution and successfully migrated all their existing services which were part of SOA 11g and OWSM 10g gateway to SOA 12c with high quality and within their budget.

Best for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

Fusion Professionals has rich experience in the Integration platform technologies and have successfully delivered numerous integration and migration projects.

By leveraging the collaboration between Oracle and Fusion Professionals customer get a robust and rapid solution delivery to maximise the return on their investment. Reduce implementation risk by leveraging our proven.

Business Benefits

The business prospered from Fusion Professionals’ timely delivery of the new SOA12c platform build on top of Oracle Super Cluster hardware, providing highly available, reliable, scalable and performing SOA system which had fixed existing performance, capacity and availability issue and can easily accommodate future demands. Furthermore, the new SOA environment maintenance was also transitioned to existing support team.

Technical Benefits

Fusion Professionals successful execution of the SOA 12c project vastly alleviated performance, capacity and availability issues for middleware platform. Client will be continued to benefit with SOA12c environment as it can leverage large variety of new feature of SOA 12c for all upcoming projects e.g. robust cloud integration, improved mobile app integration, new designed BAM, B2B and MFT component, new work manager threading model and so on. It also has reduced some operational activities by providing “Auto purge” of SOA dehydration store and log purging capability, centrally managed SOA and OSB application from newly designed EM console. The performance testing result revealed that the new SOA 12c environment can take at least 4 times more numbers of users load without compromising response time of services.

The environment solves the availability issue as well by providing cluster configuration which means patching and deployment can be performed without any downtime.

Achievements

  1. Fusion Professional built 5 SOA12c environments. 3 single nodes and 2 cluster nodes support MAA capabilities as per Oracle EDG guidelines.

  2. Fusion Professionals successfully migrated 70 SOA 11g SCA composites and 14 OWSM 10g Gateway services to SOA12c environments.

  3. Fusion Professional redeveloped 14 OWSM 10g gateway services using SOA12c Oracle Service Bus product.
